German Shepherd Dog  herder has the following characteristics:

The body structure is slightly elongated, proportional, muscular and has a solid bone structure.

The ears stood straight at the bottom and tapered over the top.

The eyes are dark and almond shaped.

The nose is generally black, sometimes there are also blue or red hearts.

There are 3 types of fur, namely rough-coated, long rough-coated and long-haired. Most of the coat is black with a tan, sable or all black color.

Temperament:

Herder Dogs are courageous, alert, fearless, intelligent, obedient, and have enormous learning abilities. Shepherds are so loyal, they will not think twice about giving their life to their master. This dog likes to be around his family but can be wary of strangers. Herder dogs should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They will only bark when needed. Herder dogs are commonly used as working dogs and police dogs because they have very strong protective instincts and are very loyal to their handlers.

Herder dogs need to be socialized from childhood. Dogs that are aggressive and like to attack people are associated with a lack of proper handling and training. Problems come when owners let their dogs think that they are pack leaders and don't provide them with the mental and physical exercise they need to be more stable. Herder dogs need owners who naturally demonstrate a calm yet firm, confident and consistent leader. A stable and well-trained dog, generally good with other animals and very good with children in the family. On the other hand, a shepherd dog whose instincts are never met and has a passive owner will become a shy dog, often agitated and may tend to bite out of fear and develop other problems.

The form of training can be anything like chasing a ball, catching a Frisbee, obedience training, taking part in a dog show or maybe just a long walk / jog. But remember, in every daily exercise there must be walking / jogging to fulfill the dog's instinct to walk.

Old Age:

About 13 years

Origin :

The German Shepherd / Herder appeared in the late 19th century in Germany and they were first shown at an exhibition held in Hanover in 1882. Back then, they didn't look like the herders we know today because they had coarse hair, a short tail and somewhat resembles a mongrel. The appearance of the herder as it is now only appeared after the second world war. The german shepherd was actually created from a working sheep dog cross in Germany by a former cavalry officer named Max Von Stephanitz whose aim was to create a working dog that could herd and could run for a long time.

Grooming / Maintenance:

Herder is one breed whose coat is often shed. Herder's hair needs to be combed every day or your house could become covered in hair loss. Bathe only when necessary, too often can cause skin irritation due to the depletion of skin oils. Check ears and trim nails regularly.

In 1906, the first german shepherd was exported to the US and since then, this breed has become very popular and one of the most favorite dog breeds in the US as a pet dog as well as a working dog especially for the police. They are widely used for security purposes because of their very strong protective instinct.
